Third behind eventual Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes winner Stakes winner El Divino on debut, David Pfieffer’s Fort Myer (Arlington) was spelled after his second career start to mature and grow.
Returning for his three-year-old campaign, the P Webster, A Stephenson, L G Morgan, Ms C Dafel, M J Scott & B J Freeman-owned gelding recorded a first-up long neck second at Nowra, before a fifth at Cessnock.
After an impressive four-length Warwick Farm barrier trial victory, the gelding headed to Gosford on October 27 to contest the Makinson D’Apice Lawyers Maiden Handicap over 120m.
Starting the race favourite in the seven horse field, jockey Bobby El-Issa took Fort Myer to the lead from the get-go and while tracked by Write This Down throughout the race, was simply too classy.
Breaking his maiden, Fort Myer held off the late charge of Chris Waller’s Yeah Bravo to record a neck win, with a length back to Write This Down in third. To view a replay of the victory, click the below results graphic.
